that the whole point of what we do is so that you will live closer to Jesus. That's the whole point of our program. And we do some fun things along the way to be able to do that. And I want to get started by talking about revival. And I know that's something that, as Christians, it's kind of a buzzword in our little community because we want revival. I think everybody that is a born-again believer

knows we need revival in our country. But let's just be honest. Have you prayed for revival really earnestly? Have you seen pockets of revival? See, because look, I'll just be honest. I want revival too. I want God to move in our nation like He has in the past. I mean, there's evidence of it, especially if go back just as recent as about 50 years or so with that Jesus revolution. That was an amazing move of God where we saw Him

reached down and changed people's lives, and then that just started an avalanche of changing lives of people from all walks of life. People became disciple makers, and it was just what God has drawn up in the Bible. It's exactly what we should be doing. But it takes that move, it takes that spark from God to get it going. And sometimes I think we look at culture and we look around

the news sites and we just get so depressed and so disheartened by it. I know I do. If I spend too much time on my phone looking at just the headlines, man, it does. It's like we're so far away from God, it's not even funny. We keep moving further and further away from the principles that founded our nation and we start thinking, man, where's the hope? Where is God going to be able to move in that?

because he's got to have willing hearts to do it, right? It's not just him coming down and doing something because he's going to twist people's arms. That's not the way he works. He doesn't just force himself. He's got to be invited. We have to cry out to him. I mean, that's found over and over and over again in Scripture. So as we sit here and we want revival, the whole culture kind of beats us down and we're like, revival is never going to come.

Have you ever been there? You ever felt like that? I know, I have too. I have, and I've had to repent of it and had to go back, because I go in cycles, you know. I feel like, man, we're getting so close to revival because I feel that God is moving and then we don't see it and I kind of just forget about praying for it and it goes by for a few months and all of a sudden I feel convicted again and that cycle starts all over.

Is that sound familiar to you? Can I get an amen somebody? Right? Well, having said all of that, let me give you some good news. There are some little sparks of revival happening all across the country. And really, they're happening among college students and college age students. I am so impressed by the group I get to lead on Wednesday nights. I see so much

negative in the culture like we all do, and then I get to be around a group of 10, 15 or so young adults every week, and I see their faithfulness, and I see their hunger for God's Word, and I see them opening the Bible and really wanting to go deeper and not just stay on the surface level. They want something real. They want something that's going to...

make a difference in their life. And a lot of them, a lot of them are church kids. A lot of them have grown up in the church having heard it all and seen it all, but they've never really experienced God on that deeper of a level. Yes, they have known Him as their Savior and have placed their faith in Him, but they haven't gone a layer or two or three deeper, and that's what their heart is.

And not only am we seeing it here, me and with my eyes locally, but we're seeing it on college campuses around the area, around the country. You look at, there was a great move in Auburn University and then there was one at the University of Arkansas and one at Ohio State and then one down at Texas A &M. And it has started to slowly fan the flames. And I don't know if that...

is going to continue to take place or not, but I do know there is a great hunger for that generation to find God and to make God a real part of their life. Because I'll just be honest with you, I think the generation before them, I think for the most part, the overwhelming part, they just said no. They just rejected it. And I think one of the main reasons that they did reject it is because

They didn't get the firm foundation that they needed. Yes, they probably grew up in church and they looked around once they got out of church and was influenced more by the culture than anything else. now I can count on one hand or really probably two hands if I really think about it. I can count up kids that I know that went through our youth group and our children's church at my church and that are now in their

late 20s, early 30s, maybe even mid-30s, and they have completely dropped out of church, or they have completely gone even further by saying, I don't even believe anymore. I'm just an atheist. I don't think that God even exists anymore. And you think, how in the world could that happen? How could we have lost that generation? And I think maybe a lot of it was because that we

as a church tried to do things more to cater to the unsaved and be just a carbon copy of the world versus standing out and being different. Because you know there was that whole kind of seeker mentality that a lot of churches and a lot of church plants started doing, know, in the really, really it started in the 90s but it carried on through the 2000s and

You see that it became so much more like a concert than a church service, right? You see the smoke and the lights and the whole thing. And look, I'm not here to poo-poo that. I mean, that's one thing. If God is worshiped and God is taught and the Bible is preached, hey, I don't care what surrounds it. That's the main ingredient. But when it starts to be watered down and it starts to...

really take effect because we're worried that, well, this crowd may not stay with us because the Bible teaching is too deep and too hard and too convicting, then that's a problem. But I think this generation craves that. I think this generation too has rejected that kind of mindset and kind of approach to church. But this generation has also

decided instead, hey, we want the real thing. We want the authentic stuff. We want to know that when the rubber meets the road that this Christianity stuff is real and it's something I can really base my life on versus just checking a box and saying, oh yeah, this is something I did for the week, you know, and move on with my life without it ever affecting my Monday through Sunday part of my life. I want something real. want something

that I can hold on to. And we're seeing that happen. And we're seeing God move. And my prayer is that it continues to happen and that God uses this generation that I'm talking about, this young adults from 18 to 25, to really kick off another great awakening. Another mighty move of God. And they may be on the front lines of bringing the revival.

over the last few weeks about the minor profits. And I know I'm going to sound like a broken record, just for those that may be new, minor profits are not minor because of importance or lack thereof. The only reason they're called minor profits is because they are smaller books than the major profits as far as length goes. And that's the only criteria.

You've got those bigger books like Isaiah and Jeremiah, and then you've got the smaller books that fill in the Old Testament after all the Psalms and Proverbs and everything, right? So that's what we're looking at is some of these minor prophets. And today we're looking at one of probably the most famous minor prophet, and that's Jonah. And if you're of a certain age, you've seen the Veggie Tales movie and you know all about it. But I'm telling you,

Jonah has a lot to offer. And when you start to think about Jonah, everybody knows about the whale and how the whale swallowed Jonah. And he wasn't digested, but yet spent three days and three nights in the belly of the whale before he was ejected out, kind of a Shamu Express, you might say, out onto the land where he finally went to do what God had commanded him to do from the start.

I mean, the whole book of Jonah is about running away from God. And not just anybody running away, but a prophet, or we might call them in this case pastors, that know God's Word, have seen God move, and have taught others God's Word, right? Yet that's the very person that said, I don't want any of this. I'm going to go the complete opposite direction. And that's what he did.

had commanded him to go to this place called Nineveh, which was full of Israel's enemies. Jonah's like, I'm not doing that. No way. Those people have been so awful to the Jewish people. I'm not going to go there and much less preach a revival to them. I'm going to go the complete and opposite direction. And that's what he did. He gets on the ship. We know the story. And then he's thrown overboard and the whale swallows him up.

And then Jonah finally relents, or at least kind of relents. He goes and kind of, you can almost tell with his teeth kind of clenched, he goes into this big town of Nineveh, again, a town that had completely rejected and had gone to war with and have been hostile to Jewish people for years and years and years. And he goes in and says,

Repent, you know, he's not he's not got his heart in it at all and what happens well We know the story the people of Nineveh do repent they do come to the Lord and they do have judgment staved off because of this one man even though he Begrudgingly did it and his heart probably wasn't completely and totally in the message God used it

and God brought about a great revival to that city Nineveh. And it was amazing. Now Nineveh would go on and go back to their old ways, but at this point Jonah has done his job. But Jonah's angry. In fact, Jonah is so angry that he's ready to just die. God just take me out. I'm so frustrated by this situation.

And what was that? What made Jonah so mad that he was willing to ask God to take him out? Well, that's where you seek and find. Check out Jonah chapter 4 verses 7 through 10.

Huge, for us. So thank you for doing that in advance. I wanted to bring you conversation that I had with Michael Loudermilk. He's a pastor in central Arkansas. But I wanted to focus in this little bit of the interview that we talked about with a very hard time that he's going through. His young daughter has been diagnosed with cancer, and he and his family are walking through that right now.

The grace and the faithfulness that God has shown his family and the testimony that they've given to others through this has been just nothing short of phenomenal. So here's Pastor Michael Loudermilk. Yeah, that's right. I five kids. We had three boys. And I remember when Victoria was pregnant with the fourth, I was just sure it was going to be another boy. But then out came Abigail.

We now have two girls three boys and two girls, but my oldest girl Abigail who is seven about four and a half months ago she was diagnosed with a a grade four brain tumor in Her right thalamus, which is kind of near the center of the brain

It is what's called an ATRT, an atypical teratoid, rhabdoid tumor. So a pretty aggressive brain tumor. And obviously, it goes without saying, as a parent, you really just can't fathom, number one, that your kid would...

have a brain tumor and then number two just just kind of what that's like it's um so it's been a really heavy four and a half months um some real beauty in the midst of it from our church from friends from the way that they have cared for abigail and in my family is something that you know i think has changed my life and my wife and i forever abigail did six weeks of um full brain and spine radiation at the proton center

down at UAMS and about a month ago she started what's considered a high intensity chemotherapy regiment at Children's and so we spend a lot of time at Children's doing chemo treatments and among checkups and you know labs and transfusions and all the different things and it's it's it's it's a bear.

But man, God's meeting us in the midst of that and we are, we're fighting it and we're expected and hopeful and prayerful that God will heal my sweet girl and she's unbelievable. And, but yeah, we're definitely in the midst of that storm right now. So many times we hear people talk about these hard, difficult seasons of life and they're on the other side. You're in the middle of the storm right now.

How do you keep your faith? Because I know you're a pastor, and the Sunday school answer is, well, Jesus is good all the time. What have you learned in these four months about Christ and about his faithfulness? Man. Well, think, and I don't want to speak as an expert, because these things are hard and everyone's bit different, right? When you first get the diagnosis,

It's just surreal, just don't, you can't really believe it. Like how did this happen? And you don't understand it, you know, but the Lord just has a way, I think, of meeting you in that space. And so I'm a pretty positive guy. I'm a pretty, like, I like being, I like good emotions and good vibes.

And when your daughter gets diagnosed with cancer, it's hard to manufacture those. And so I think it's taught me a greater appreciation for just kind of biblical language of lament, for just the real fallenness and heartache that exists in the midst of beauty. Interestingly enough, when you think of God's sovereignty,

Abigail's cancer has both probably confused me in a way, but also God's sovereignty has become more important than ever, which is a bit odd, right? Because you think your daughter gets cancer, you're going to question God. But I think Abigail getting cancer, the honest reality is I do go, man, I don't get this and I don't like it.

But I have to believe that you are in the midst of this. You know that this is not an accident, this is not a surprise. This is something that you were aware of. And that actually is the thing that, one of the things that brings me great peace in the midst of it.

that I know God is good and I know he's in control and he's given me a language in the Psalms and other spaces also to lament how sad this is at times and how hard it is and how much it hurts and And he wants to hear those things He's given us that even in his word and so I think leaning into that a bit more than I probably Historically have done

you know it's kind of cliche but you hear people sometimes when they go through suffering how they they really find themselves in the Psalms a lot and that's been my case you know I am continually drawn to the Psalms because there's just language there that is able to express

a lot of the things I feel, which aren't all negative. mean, some of it is joyful and trusting and believing and knowing that victory is to come in one way or another. And then there's also this deep language of despair and confusion and even anger and anger and sadness. And that was something that I hadn't really, I mean, to be really transparent with you, I don't get angry easily. not, don't, I don't get mad a lot.

Um, and I certainly haven't been mad at God before, confused all of us, right? All of us, maybe confused or disappointed or questioning, but that had been the extent probably for me. And this was my first foray. I want to be careful here because I don't want to overstate it, but there was definitely a piece of me in particular early on when we got.

a really painful diagnosis and prognosis that, um, that I said, God, this is you, you, this is not right. Yeah. This is just, you're wrong to do this to my girl, you know, and, the wonderful thing is, again, I can't put myself in your shoes. I, I, I, my heart breaks for you and your family, but God's shoulders are big enough for that.

They are, you know, a lot of times I think people will kind of sit in judgment and say, well, how can you talk to God like that? I think that's very biblical. think God realizes life in this sinful world we're in is not perfect. It's not the way he wants it to be. And that at some point he's going to right all the wrongs. That's right. And he, and he knows my heart. And even when I

you know, even if I were to express something like, God, you can't do this to her. I think that God knows what I'm really saying is, God, please don't do like, yes, don't let this be, you know, and I think that's completely legitimate. And I had one mentor that I called early on when I was pretty in, the dumps. And as I was talking to him, I had this epiphany almost like mid conversation and you know, I'm a pastor I've preached.

a lot of different passages and a lot of different books. And I had this moment where I go, oh my gosh, like I am speaking exactly like prophets of old who didn't know whether it's Habakkuk or Job or whomever. I was like, I go, I'm almost saying verbatim what I've read them say.

And that was both, I guess, comforting and also convicting because I've probably, as I've preached, said those guys need to like, so I think it was a moment to kind of just feel the whole weight of my humanity, of my brokenness, of my sadness, but also of like, I'm not the first that's gone through this.

God is faithful in the midst of this. He will see me through it and he'll see my family through it. And four and a half months in that has been the case. He's been incredibly faithful. And Abigail had her first post radiation scan a few weeks ago and the tumor had responded really well. We have a long way to go. We have a battle that is on our hands, but we also are just super encouraged about

where she's at but yeah it's been

Certainly not, you we opened up our new church building in February. And so I, this had been about a four or five year process. And so I had really kind of circled 2026 is this really kind of special, open up the church building and all this momentum, all this energy, like let's set sail and take a, let's lift off kind of, and just, and then she got sick on March 11th. So about three or four weeks.

after the church opened. And that changes the dynamic a bit when the lead pastor's daughter gets brain cancer. But I think even for our church, it's not the year we probably expected opening a new building. But there's a depth. There's a shared just experience and grace and love for one another.

that is also really special. so, you know, of course I'm not saying that I'm glad my daughter's sick or I would trade that in a heartbeat, but it's also been sweet just to see, because life is pain too. Life is not all just celebration and joy and fun. And so I think it's this thing, you open up a new building and then you go through something really hard as a church. But what it's done I think is deep in the church's faith and bond.

and just give it even a broader experience because it's like, this is life and hard things happen and we're going to go through it together. Fantastic. Michael Laudermilk, you are amazing. Because my wife, bless her heart, is probably the least competitive person I've ever met, except when it comes now to our grandson. Let me quickly tell you the story. You'd have two or three people just be like, this is a game. You guys are taking it way too seriously. You know who, you know those people? That was my wife. She led the charge on that, okay? Well, that's been her MO our entire life, as long as I've known her. But yet, eight weeks ago, our grandson was born. It's our first one. And she has gone into full grandmother mode, which is great. And I love seeing her in this stage of life.

But it has brought out some competitiveness in her that I have never seen in almost 30 years of marriage. Because my son and daughter-in-law and grandson live about three hours away. And her parents live close to us. I mean, within a few miles. So, both of us as grandparents sets don't get to see the baby on the regular. But last weekend,

It came out, and I say it came out on Facebook that the other set of grandparents went up and visited my son and daughter-in-law and grandson. Well, you should have seen my wife's reaction. Her eyes got big, the nostrils flared out, slammed the hand on the table. We got to go. We got to go up and see him. So we made plans to go up and we, and I love it. And I'm not, I'm not complaining. I'm just saying it's just a totally different.

aspect of my wife that I have never seen before. Okay, it's time for us to look at some other things going on in the world, some headlines that are being made. I don't know if you know who Drew Brees is. If you follow sports, you obviously do. Drew Brees was the quarterback of the New Orleans Saints for a long time and brought that city a championship. And he went into the Hall of Fame over the weekend, I guess on August 8th is when this happened.

And he spoke a lot about his faith, not just in passing terms, but in some serious detailed terms. He said he was sitting in church on his 17th birthday and Christ came into his heart and changed him forever. He said, felt protected, connected, and directed towards the path that God had for me. He would equip me for the journey which led me to places I could never have expected. And he goes on to thank his pastors at that time.

and others for being Christian mentors in his life. And he says that so much of life is just trusting. He said it's faith in God knowing he's got a plan and at times you probably won't understand it. You're not going to see it, yet you have to trust him. You have to have faith. Good stuff. I always liked Drew Brees, but I like him more now. Let's see. She was on full house back in the day and she was on the view and all of that stuff, right? Well, now she's like Mrs. Hallmark movies. Well, her son Lev is talking about revival that we were mentioning earlier. He's part of that generation. He's 26 years old and he said, you know, I think slowly my generation, the younger generation is starting to feel the reality of this God-sized hole in our lives.

He said, everything we think will gratify our desires and our greatest wishes just don't hold water. says, like social media or money or careers or whatever you want to call it, I think slowly we're finding that at the end of the day we still feel empty inside. And then he goes on to say, as people start to navigate and search for the truth, the one truth that reveals itself, and that is Christ.

So it's amazing to see and I believe revival is here and going to continue to grow. I definitely have a heart to be in the pulpit to get to teach God's Word and if it's something that He would grace me with and continue to do in the future, I would absolutely love it. It would be something I would love to pursue. Well, that's great. Kirk Cameron's nephew and Candace's son headed to the pulpit. I love that and he's part of that generation.

we've been talking about. love hearing that. And I just think we've got to keep our part though. You know, as I said in the first segment, it was like, yeah, they're the ones that seem like they're leading the charge, but we have to be their support. We have to be there praying for them, but also continuing to pray that God would bring that revival and use that generation and use even our generation to reach others. That's the whole message there.

He said, one of the toughest worldly patterns for students to shed in our culture is thinking on gender identity and sexual orientation. when younger generations are a part of the conversation. So he said, because of this, it's tempting his leaders to avoid all these hot button issues. Boy, he's so right on that. Because it's hard, and it's maybe uncomfortable, and maybe a little awkward, especially maybe for grade school kids. But you've got to man up. You've got to woman up and start teaching and start letting these kids know at a young age what the Bible says and what is true.

and what is just cultural gutter stuff. And then he goes on to say, if we don't disciple teens in this area, the world will. Amen. To equip your students and to think biblically about LGBTQ topics, we encourage them to take them through the hard questions examining gender, sexuality, and identity through the gospel's lens. It may take a little more effort than what it did when you were younger, but it can be done. And here's the promise. When we hide God's Word in our heart, it helps us not sin against Him, and it helps us to know what His Word says when life gets all crazy and we don't know what's end is up a lot of times.
