What does faith look like when life doesn’t make sense? Drew Cline, pastor of South City Church in Little Rock, joins The Steve Marston Show for an honest and deeply personal conversation about grief, loss, discipleship, and trusting God through the hardest seasons of life. Eight months after losing his wife, Lori, following 31½ years of marriage, Drew shares openly about learning to live with grief rather than simply trying to “get over it.” He talks about missing his best friend, wrestling with God, finding moments of joy in the middle of sorrow, and discovering firsthand the truth that “the Lord is close to the brokenhearted.” Drew explains that faith doesn’t require pretending that something terrible is actually good. Instead, Romans 8:28 reminds us that God is able to take even devastating circumstances and work through them for His glory and our good. The conversation also explores the remarkable transformation of South City Church. Formerly Temple Baptist Church, the congregation moved away from a traditional 60,000-square-foot church campus and developed a more relational model centered on house churches, discipleship, and living out the “one another” commands of Scripture. Today, South City gathers in City Groups throughout Central Arkansas on the first and third Sundays of each month and comes together for corporate worship at 317 Coffee & Cafe on the second and fourth Sundays. Drew also shares how 317 Coffee & Cafe has become an extension of that mission. In its first year, the church-owned coffee shop donated nearly $46,000 to local nonprofits serving people affected by homelessness, human trafficking, addiction, and adoption-related needs. It’s a conversation about grieving honestly, trusting God when you don’t understand, making disciples through genuine relationships, and believing that God never wastes our brokenness.
