Remembering 9/11, the Unity We Lost & The Passion of the Christ | Adam Holz

What do you remember about September 11, 2001—and how do we explain that day to a generation that wasn't there to experience it?

Steve Marston is joined by Adam Holz of Plugged In for a personal conversation about their memories of 9/11, the fear and uncertainty Americans experienced that day, and the remarkable unity that followed on September 12. They also discuss how difficult it can be for younger generations to understand an event they know only as history and why movies and other stories can help preserve those memories.

Steve and Adam reflect on how churches filled in the days immediately following the attacks and why that sense of national unity and spiritual urgency seemed to fade so quickly.

Then the conversation turns to movies and faith as Adam discusses the theatrical re-release of Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ. Steve and Adam consider the film's powerful depiction of Jesus' crucifixion, its intense violence, whether it's appropriate for younger viewers, and the value—and difficulty—of seeing Christ's suffering portrayed so realistically.

It's a conversation about remembering the past, teaching the next generation, faith in moments of crisis, and remembering the sacrifice Jesus willingly made for us.
