What Are Your Kids Really Watching? | Paul Asay of Plugged In

Movies, music, streaming, video games, YouTube and social media are everywhere—but how can Christian parents know what their kids are actually consuming?

Paul Asay, Director of Plugged In, a ministry of Focus on the Family, joins Steve Marston to help parents navigate today's rapidly changing world of entertainment and technology.

Paul explains why parents need to look beyond obvious content like language, violence and sexuality and consider something deeper: the worldview behind the entertainment our children consume. A movie or show can appear relatively clean while still communicating powerful messages about success, identity, relationships and what matters most in life.

Steve and Paul discuss The Magic Faraway Tree and its mixture of positive family themes, screen-time concerns and spiritual elements parents may want to consider. They also look at Ariana Grande's latest music and why parents of younger fans should be aware of its mature content.
The conversation also turns to Camp Rock 3. While the movie contains relatively little objectionable content, Paul points out that its emphasis on stardom and pursuing your dreams provides an opportunity for Christian parents to talk with their children about a biblical worldview—one centered on God and serving others rather than simply pursuing self.

Plus, Paul shares an important FREE resource for families: Plugged In's Parents Guide to Technology, a 125-page guide designed to equip moms and dads to navigate screen time, social media and technology with their children.

The goal isn't simply to tell families what they should or shouldn't watch. It's to give parents the information and tools they need to make informed decisions for their own families.
