When Obedience Feels Like Failure: Paul’s Courage in Acts 23

What does success look like when you’re following God—but nothing seems to be working?

This week, they dig into Acts 23, where Paul finds himself facing the Sanhedrin after his ministry in Jerusalem appears to have gone terribly wrong. Paul cleverly exposes the theological divide between the Pharisees and Sadducees over the resurrection, turning what looked like a unified opposition into an argument among themselves.

But the heart of the conversation comes from Jesus’ words to Paul: “Take courage.” Paul may not have seen the results he hoped for in Jerusalem, but he had been faithful to what God called him to do. His obedience—not the response of the crowd—was the true measure of success. And God wasn’t finished with him: Paul would eventually take the gospel all the way to Rome.

Steve and Tyler also discuss an important reminder for every Christian: following Jesus isn’t simply about one moment of conversion. It’s a lifelong walk in which Christ continues to lead, shape, sanctify, and encourage us—even during our lowest moments.
